The South Central Plant for the Baylor University Medical Center campus in Dallas, Texas, is going to tie into the existing main plant located on the north side of the medical center. SW Associates has been retained to design the mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering aspects of this new 25,000 SF facility.
The new plant will produce 9,600 tons of cooling from four 4160V variable speed centrifugal chillers. The chiller condenser water will be cooled by field erected fiberglass induced draft counter flow cooling towers on the roof the new plant. The chilled water will be pumped to the existing loop via a new utility corridor. The utility corridor will be routed overhead, underground, through a parking garage and through an adjacent building to connect to the existing loop. The chillers, cooling towers, and associated pumps will be served from an emergency power source.
The new plant will have space reserved for two 800 BHP high pressure gas fired steam boilers and their ancillary equipment. The steam and condensate return will be tied to the existing loop via the new utility corridor. The boilers and associated equipment will be served from an emergency power source.
Power to the plant will be provided via transfer switches and transformers that are fed from two independent utility sources. Four 1750 kw 4160V generators will be provided for chiller emergency power, and four 1250 kw 13200V generators will be provided for the campus emergency power loop. The generators will be cooled with condenser water from one of the cooling towers.
Two 30000 gallon underground fuel oil tanks will be provided for storage of the generator fuel oil.
A bulk oxygen storage tank will be provided and tied into the existing loop to supplement the oxygen needs of the campus.
